Mary Knows Best/Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files

Mary Knows Best

This will be rather short as there isn't much to say. I'm starting to think these reality family-based shows are becoming quite cookie cutter. They each have something to make them special but yet also same ole, same ole.

Mary Knows Best is centered around psychic/medium Mary O and her eccentric family. I'll admit. I was a little curious concerning what it would be like to live with a psychic. This show answered that question for me. Psychics may seem like shiny new toys (to some), but to have to deal with that ability all day everyday can be quite annoying. The basic formula of this show is Mary O doing readings on her radio show, street, and businesses. Just wherever as it is apart of who she is. This is all mixed in with semi-normal family drama set in Long Island. Bottomline, you get what you see.

Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files

This is the one I particularly was anxious to watch. You have a team of six individuals, all equipped with their own expertise. Ben Hansen is a former FBI agent and the ringleader of this group. Then there's Jael (journalist and former member of Destination Truth), Larry (effects specialist), Bill (lead scientist), Austin (stunt expert), and Chi-Lan (photograph expert).

They start out in the Situation Room, reviewing various video clips and determining which one has the best potential to pursue further. Ben, Jael and Austin investigated the phantom vehicle in Savannah, Georgia further. They spoke with Officer Wayne Daniels, the cop involved this is bizarre chase, who guided them through what happened that night. Then, the three proceeded with setting up various experiments to determine whether there was a logical explanation or not.

Using a professional stunt driver named Mike Shortt and another member of the Garden City Police Department named Sgt. Shawn Myers. They attempted to recreate two key moments. The first being the U-turn. Some believe a huge distance between the car and cop couldn't be possible in a short amount of time. After one experimental run, it was proven how likely it could be. The second was a little harder, the moment where the car is seen on the other side of the undamaged fence. They tried jumping the fence and was semi-successful except there wasn't enough of an elevation at the actual scene. If you can't go over, you go under. The first attempt brought almost the whole fence down. One minor adjustment and the car sailed right through as if passing through a curtain. The car passes to the other side before the cop or the camera sees what happened. There is your plausible explanation (never really thought it was paranormal anyways).

The second video clip was filmed by Jeff Willes in Arizona. Many people witnessed the phenomena in the video. Larry, Bill and Chi-Lan set out to debunk this one. They first talked to Jeff and borrowed his camera (supposedly the same one that filmed the Lights video). Then proceeded with a couple of experiments. They tried a window pane and a laser. Managed to duplicate the lights but not the movement. Then went on to lanterns attached to balloons hooked up to a dimmer. Duplicated the movement but not the altitude. The option of last resort was a night investigation.

They set up four IR cameras. Larry monitored the cameras and Bill and Chi-Lan searched for trace evidence. They weren't expecting what they found. As Bill and Chi-Lan were exploring the area, they began hearing movement and strange noises, but before they could determine what it was, Larry alerted them to an unusual light in the sky. This light moved from left to right, zig-zagged. They couldn't come up with a logical explanation for it.

I think this show has potential. It's sort of Mythbusters meets the paranormal. Fairly good first episode. Will have to wait and see concerning future ones.

The ufo they saw at the end freaked me out, i dont know why they havent tried to explain that one, they couldve done what that dude did, which is call the air force. ask them if they were doing something and secondly maybe alert them.
it was entertaining, i like the mythbusters aspect of it.

so I have a question...did you check the image the ghost car had when it turned around? my bro and i looked at both and you can clearly see the guy that helped them makin the scene, in the video the ghost car was you can not see anyone inside, so why you did not check that? I think you should because i did not see someone inside

on fact or fake they did the test wrong!!! they say the car went through the fense cuz it lifted up over the car!!! it only did that cuz the went through the fense BACKWARDS. if you look on the cops camera the chain link was on the front of the poles and wen they replicated it they had the chain link on the back of the poles enableing the fense to lift up without breaking anything! it wont lift up when its in the front of the poles! they didnt replicate the video right. because they went throught the fense backwards it lifted up! they guys are the most pathetic investigators ive ever seen!!!

Didn't care for Mary Knows Best and her crazy son. I did like Fact or Faked and can see this show getting better as they work out the kinks. The comments above brought out some interesting questions. Way to pay attention peeps.

Did anyone see when there was a the right rogue red and green light come from the top of screen and end up on the middle of the right side of the screen? They were getting video of the UFO site and one of the guys was talking about getting UFO videos.

Ok, I'm a USAF fighter pilot and every time I see this "Phoenix Lights" crap I go nuts. Those are illumination flares dropped from A-10's (more than likely or F-16s). The flares they show coming off the C-130 are protective flares, the illum flares hang on parachutes, that's why they float down slowly. It took me .5 secs to figure that out, stop wasting brain bytes.

I wanted to watch but had to DVR it. Then our remote broke so we've had no access to our taped shows all weekend. (I'll remedy that tomorrow.) At any rate, GREAT post! I wasn't excited about the Mary O show. Didn't look interesting to me. She got on my nerves just watching the previews so I knew no way I'd make it through a whole epi. But the Fact or Faked looked great. Liked the last comment before mine that was left. I lived in PHX at that time but didn't see the lights. I sure remember all the hoopla that ensued though. But his explanation makes sense...

Hello, Being one of the thousands of people who witnessed the Phoenix lights you are missing one important fact. The night the lights first appeared they started in Utah and moved south and were seen over Flagstaff then Sedona then Camp Verde then North Phoenix and finally stopping in the southwest valley in an area called Rainbow Valley where they have appeared repeatedly since the original sighting. Why in all these investigations have these facts always been left out? And the Air Force to come out months later and try to claim them as 'flares' really ticks me off. They couldn't deny culpability fast enough when it happened and I really don't believe that they have the technology to pull if off over two entire states. They are just trying to make people believe that UFO's are not real when we all know they are and the government has all the proof to show us they just think we are too stupid to deal with it. Their the stupid ones because we will always believe weather or not they confirm their existence. There are just too many people seeing too much proof in the skies around the world.

In regards to the ghost car, I don't think they said this is exactly what happened. They presented a possibility. We can't exactly examine the actual fence as it has been replaced. All we have is the video to go on and it's not the best quality.

As for the Phoenix lights, I've seen a lot of people attacking the person who filmed the video clip. He's apparently really in to UFOs. Whatever. It's starting to sound like some people may be upset they didn't discredit the video. If they found the video fake, then he's guilty of fabricating evidence. Who cares. Thousands of people saw those lights whether they be UFOs or flares. He wasn't the only one who filmed it.

I'm surprised more people weren't commenting on the footage the Fact or Faked crew caught. All we see is a light flying back and forth. We have to take them at their word that the light was doing a bunch of other strange things.

When watching this two times I am reluctant to watch it again. When they were screening which cases to take they completely dismissed the one when the little boy took the photo of the shadow that crossed in front of him.

Their explanation would hold water if it wasn't for the fact that the door was OPEN and the human form held it's shape in mid-air as it passed the open door. You could see the shadow on the wall to the left and right of the doorway as well as through the open part of the doorway. A shadow cannot be cast unless there is a surface for it to be cast upon. It should not have the shape of a man on the left side of the doorway and maintain that same human shape as it passes the opened door then onward to the right side of the doorway.

They at least should have examined it much more closely. That was amateurish at best and they've lost their credibility as far as I'm concerned.

After watching the second episode, I am already miffed about how quickly they dismiss all the "ghostly" stuff but ALWAYS take on the obviously faked UFO/ Alien cra*! Fact or fake is nothing but a cheap copy of Destination Truth.
Or maybe I only feel that way, because I am already annoyed by just watching the previews of "Mary knows best". She is nothing but a attention starved old noisy lady. That is by far the most annoying show on TV. SYFY, where are you heading onto?? Please come up with the real stuff like my true ghost story on biography channel!

This is so fake. it becomes Stupid.
The man drove through the fence. Those so called ghost hunters were at the wrong fence. The driver went around 20 yards into some ones back yard around the house to the street and away. He knew where he was going the cop didn’t. What really blows my mind is there are people that believe this junk. And know I do not watch the show. I saw the ghost car on my home page just thought I’d take a look. It was so stupid I felt the need to say so “man, are the stars of the show fake”? Some really bad acting. Man it’s so stupid. Oh if anyone feel the need to respond don’t will not be back to read them

My name is Roy. On the ghost car! I saw the clip. And how, it was explained, that the fence tie's where missing or loose. And the car went threw it, with no problem. And looked!, liked it wasn't touched. OK! That's not correct! When, set up the fence. For the test! They put the fence backwards. The fence was in the inside line post and top railing. If anybody, has put a fence at their house or buisness. You would not..... put it backwards. That means someone could take it down, with no problem. Defeating the what the fence. If, the they put on the corrected way. The car would have distoryed the fence. The Tv, show was wrong!.........

Could anyone tell me please what experience young Ben Hansen of Real or Faked may have in the FBI, and why he is no longer with the FBI and in what capacity? Could it be he is young and could not handle being with the FBI (if at all), or ..... er .... the FBI couldn't handle him? Or he was never in the FBI?

For the people saying they put the test fence on backwards - have a look at the cop car video again. The test fence was set up exactly right. During their interview with the cop he clearly states that the fence has change since the incident occurred. And I also noticed the the red/green lights passing behind the presenter whilst he was talking in the second story.

To the person who said that they have done the fence wrong I build fence for a livin I have done so my whole life I'm 22 and my father has done it for 35 years it doesn't matter which way they put the fence if they wulda built it right the first time u wuld have seen that since a car has such a low center of gravity it will pass under a fence the chainlink gives enough and only the ties will break or come untied after doin repairs after wrecks and just common knowledge I think I wuld know remember always trust a professional

On Fact or Faked: The Dartmoor creature was obviously a boar, not a black lion as they were leaning towards. The vehicles cross the train tracks not because child ghosts push cars uphill, but because an optical illusion hides the fact that the area slopes downhill. This obviously inexperienced and slow witted team choose the investigations with transparantly simple answers, conducts incomplete tests, and ignores the videos with any real mystery. Probably because they would not know how to solve them. This show is a total waste.

to the person that asked about if there was driver in the car or not. The fact that you can't see it in the cops video doesn't really hold any weight considering that the camera used in the cop car had worse video quality than the one Fact or Faked used. So there could have been a driver that just didn't show up on camera. And I actually watched the video and if you look close enough you can see the silhouette of a man's face.

Ok, I just want to add to the pheonix lights and I remember this like yesterday. Me and my family live in the east valley and the night of the phx lights, we were all sitting at the table eating when all of a sudden our house started shkaing, our dogs didn't make a sound but we looked around confused. We ran out the back door and to our suprise we saw 5 huge lights in a triangle slowley moving over our house. We ran from the back to the front and there they were not even a minute later they disappered. They were shaped in a huge triangle and right above our house. We also have 27 horses and none of them made a sound. But it shook our house. I know what we saw that night and it was insane flares can't explain it, nothing can explain it but a ufo. They were right above our pool and roof.

If you actually watch the ghost car video, pause it just before the end and you will see taht there is no chain link just to the right of the post where the car stops. The simple explanation, the car goes through a noticable gap in the fence which you can't see while the poice car is turning because of the headlights, you can see it when the cop car has stopped. Pretty clear that this is either a hoax or a really dumb cop (I'd go for option number 2, tends to happen more often than hoaxes.)

i think that thier just hipacrits because the moon landing ,they proved to each other that the landing was fake but they still siad that it was real so why the lies they proved to every body as well as the other shows that it was fake everything looked alike so my family was pissed they should just get off the air if thier gonna do that, and really do they think that all the people would go through all of that machine stuff to make a video..? thier just .no. so ya just drop the show if u are going to be Hippocrates so there.!

@nickhoutstra if you listenend to the police man he said that at the time of the video the chain link was on the other side
