St. Francisville Experiment

Image
St. Francisville Experiment was suppose to be an actual documentary about a night in an actual haunted house. It starts off with the producer telling the audience that everything presented in the movie was true. When you actually see the movie, you learn it is anything but that. It is allegedly a film marketed as a real version of the Blair Witch Project. In order to do this, they needed a ghost story and a location to film. St. Francisville, Louisiana is known for its hauntings, making it a perfect location for this movie. The actual ghost story that inspired it was that of the Madame Delphine LaLaurie. She was married to a doctor named Louis LaLaurie and they lived in a beautiful mansion in the French Quarter. According to the story, she was particularly cruel to the slaves they owned. She kept one woman chained in the kitchen and was never allowed to leave. It was thought this female slave was the one who started the fire at the Lalaurie house thus allowing the world to discover wha...

Wake Wood

Image
What if you lost a child tragically. What would you do to have one final moment with them? Hammer Films takes on this question in one of their latest movies Wake Wood . Vet Patrick and Pharmacist Louise Daly loss their only child to that of a crazed dog attack. They relocate to the remote Irish village of Wake Wood after learning of their unusual tradition. Inhabitants participate in a pagan ritual which brings back a person one year after their death for three days. This ritual allows a deceased to say their final farewells to their loved ones before making their final journey to the spirit world. Patrick and Louise are faced with two realities: their nine-year-old daughter Alice is dead and there's no possible way to conceive another child. They take over the local veterinary clinic. Then, make their pleas to the villager's leader, Arthur, to get those three precious days with their daughter. They accepted the villagers rules, but breaks them after Alice returns and pays a h...

"Haunted" Swing

If you're a fan of Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files then you witnessed the phenomenon known in Argentina as the "Haunted" Swing. A single swing appearing to move on its own can be rather creepy. After viewing a reporter's video of this swing, the Fact or Faked crew set out to debunk it. When I see or hear about something this intriguing, I want, as others do, to learn more about it. I put my Googling skills to the test and went to hunting. Other than a few forums talking back and forth on the issue, pretty much every article I found on this subject says the same thing. This began in June 2007, although it doesn't specifically state the boy Fibian was the first to discover it; only locals are listed. Teachers or someone reported it to the police (would loved to have heard that conversation) after it supposedly kept moving back and forth for ten days straight and then stopped dead. When the police couldn't come up with an explanation, they called in physic...

Battle: LA

Image
The "Battle of Los Angeles" also known as "The Great Los Angeles Air Raid" is believed to have triggered the era of official UFO secrecy by the U.S. government. The incident occurred less than three months after the United States entered World War II as a result of the Japanese Imperial Navy's attack on Pearl Harbor and five years before the "capture" of a "flying saucer" in Roswell, New Mexico. The target of the aerial barrage was thought to be an attacking force from Japan especially since the alleged attack came one day after the Bombardment of Ellwood, Japanese submarine attacked coastal targets near Santa Barbara, California in 1942. Air raid alarms throughout Los Angeles County were triggered on the night of February 24th-25th. A total blackout was ordered and thousands of air raid wardens were summoned to their positions. At 3:16 a.m., the 37th Coast Artillery Brigade began firing 12.8-pound anti-aircraft shells into the air at a repor...

Woodland Opera House Documentary

Strange Phenomenon: Woodland Opera House from Rob Blake on Vimeo . I was contacted by Rob Blake who put together the above documentary with friend Ray Tarara about the Woodland Opera House in Woodland, California. The Opera House was designed in 1885 by Thomas J. Welsh for $28,000. It was the first opera house to serve the Sacramento Valley. Seven years later, a fire destroyed much of what is now the Downtown Woodland Historic District, including the Opera House. A fireman named William Porter died in this fire when a back wall collapsed on him. David N. Hershey purchased the site and the Opera House was rebuilt between 1895 and 1896 using many of the materials from the original building were used including some of the partially standing walls. Over 300 touring companies had appeared on its stage. However, the growing popularity of motion pictures and a lawsuit filed by an event attendee who mistook a loading door for an exit, falling three feet and broke their arm, forced the...

Conjuring the Ghost of a Dead Motorcyclist

Lemon Tree Passage in Newcastle, New South Wales Australia is increasing becoming dangerous thanks to an alleged ghost. Port Stephens police are issuing more and more warnings to motorists driving 180km/h on this stretch of road, attempting to conjure the spirit of a 20-year-old motorcyclist. Supposedly, a 20-year-old Salt Ash man died in a motorcycle accident at Tanilba Bay in Port Stephens. He and his male passenger were riding on Lemon Tree Passage Road when they collided with a four-wheel drive in November 2007. Now, legend dictates, if you travel along Lemon Tree Passage Road at incredibly high speeds, a light will appear in pursuit of people who drive dangerously. More and more people are testing this legend in order to film it for YouTube (do I smell a future episode of Fact or Faked?). There are some who have tested the myth without the excessive speed and have seen the "ghost light". One should use their head. If you travel over a 100km/h to see a ghost light, you...

Cropsey Documentary

Image
What happens when a urban legend becomes reality? Cropsey: The Urban Legend is a spine-tingling documentary which peels back the layers of fact and fiction behind one of New York's most disturbing unsolved mysteries. When five children go missing on Staten Island, filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio realize the cautionary tales of their youth may have come true. Growing up on Staten Island, Zeman and Brancaccio had often heard the legend of "Cropsey" - the escaped mental patient who lived in the abandoned tunnels of the Willowbrook mental hospital and came at night to snatch children off the streets. "Cropsey" remained just that, an urban legend, until the summer of 1987 when a 13-year-old girl with Down syndrome disappeared from her neighborhood. Five weeks later, she was found buried in a shallow grave on the grounds of Willowbrook. Investigators soon link this case to four other missing children cases in the area - none of whom had been found. I...

Baseball Players Fear Haunted Hotel

What could possibly scare a big bad baseball player? Ghosts. Whenever the Minnesota Twins play in Milwaukee, they stay in the Pfister Hotel. They weren’t prepared for what the hotel had to offer. Matter of fact, on a previous stay, bizarre events had Outfielder Carlos Gomez dashing to the lobby minus pants and shoes. What is it about the Pfister Hotel that has them shaking in their cleats? Guido Pfister and his son Charles opened the Pfister Hotel on May 1, 1893 as a “Grand Hotel of the West”. Costing over $1 million, it contained such features a fireproofing, electricity throughout the hotel and thermostats in every room. Over the years, the hotel’s overall condition slightly deteriorated until 1962. Ben Morgan purchased the Pfister vowing to restore it to its former beauty. Such renovations were indeed completed including a new 23-story guest room tower and an extensive art collection. The one spirit most often seen at The Pfister is Charles Pfister himself. He is spotted surveyi...

Haunted High School?

On August 1st, surveillance cameras at Asheville High School in North Carolina caught an interesting piece of footage at 2:51 a.m. Is the dark image a ghost?

Ghost Hunters' Episode

Last night was an interesting episode. Below is a short synopsis of each location they investigated along with a clip, revealing the evidence they collected. The Presidio TAPS investigated the Presidio in San Francisco, California. In the 1770s, it was a Spanish fort until Mexico seized it. Twenty-four years later, it switched hands again and became a military base for the U.S. Army for over 148 years. Now, The Presidio is part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area. One of the claims TAPS went in to investigate was that of a Spanish woman. Witnesses reported seeing and smelling her in a couple areas. Jason and Grant possibly traced the floral phantom smell associated with her to a janitor's closet. As for the visual reports, watch the clip and see if you think it's her. Lullaby Lane The second stop in San Francisco was a baby store called Lullaby Lane. Most of the claims were audio except for a chair in their office moving on its own. The owners were less interested in having...

This is probably just video effects, but it's still kind of creepy.

Ghost Adventures

Filmmakers Zak Bagans and Nick Groff along with Aaron Goodwin investigated, I use that word loosely, various locations in Virginia City, Nevada and the Goldfield Hotel. FoxNews states it's "...The Best Proof Caught on Tape!" I'm not sure it's the best proof of all times, but it's some compelling footage. Think a real life version of the Blair Witch Project except they were hunting ghosts and not a witch. Most of the evidence caught was EVPs and orbs minus personal experiences. However, there are three video clips that might send chills up your spine. They captured on camera a full bodied apparition in the Washoe Club. Nick walked out of the room and it appeared the ghost followed right behind him. The second piece of footage was that of a shadowy figure filmed in the Goldfield Hotel. It's believed to be a gunslinger who has often been seen in that particular area. The last evidence caught on tape scared the filmmakers so much they jumped out a second story...
